The handmade mushroom paper works of Tanja Major show new possibilities of paper making, they consist almost 100% of mushrooms and are therefore a "compostable or sustainable art", which can be returned to nature or the forest. There it can decompose again, crumble apart, crack, disintegrate, be uncontrollable for us, no longer hold and get out of joint perhaps from the original ideas, simply become dilapidated. The natural decay that makes up our world. From it new life can arise again.

Whereabouts: The Influence of Place and Space is an ongoing series of installations considering the most public-facing space – the Lobby, Living Room, and Cases. Artists build an immersive environment or site-specific work that responds to the space’s architecture, ornamentation, furniture, and social nature. These works consider the nuanced understanding of art, design, and craft to push conceptual and material boundaries.
In Between Presence and Absence uses discarded paper to create paper pulp and cast everyday vessels. This process allows me to visualize the invisible — the parallel to the visible world. As I deconstruct the original identity of the vessels by installing them upside-down, I'm highlighting the container's void. As a result, the negative space of the UICA Lobby ceiling is filled with emptiness, articulating a non-describable concept, the inseparability of presence and absence, and the tension between them.

Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdroj

The story told by the trees, or the work of Maria Komorowska at the Museum of Papermaking.
Thanks to cooperation with the outstanding paper art artist Maria Komorowska, the Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój had the honor of opening a new exhibition in the only Paper Art Gallery in Poland. On the Trunk - an unusual exhibition completely inspired by nature and the artist's fresh look at such a trivial (it might seem) piece of nature as a trunk - the last remnant of a felled tree.
Maria Komorowska, lives and works in Warsaw. She is currently a professor at the University of Ecology and Management in Warsaw at the Faculty of Architecture. However, her work extends well beyond the walls of the capital. And so, for example, she has been connected with the Museum of Papermaking for years, both artistically and emotionally. It is in the historic production hall of the 16th century paper mill that many of her works have been created, and this is because one of her main interests is the technique of handmade paper. She shows up there every year to work intensively on her next works of art. She also created works there that enabled her to defend her PhD.

Different handmade or industrial papers are combined or interlaced, sometimes with other materials which had previously all been serving a function in everyday life. Vertically, horizontally, diagonally or in parallel arranged elements generate special rhythms. These oscillate between contrasts like light / dark, mat / shiny, straight / loose as well as smooth and raw.

Sammlung Aichhorn
Textil Kunst Galerie
Steingasse 35
5020 Salzburg
The Aichhorn Collection, in whose gallery rooms Eva Maria Juras shows her work, comprises valuable textiles from India to the Far East.
The piece, Beachtliches Nichts, which gives the exhibition its name, it was leftovers from a New Year's Eve firework that, lying on the floor, attracted her attention and finally, together with other elements made of flax, wood and rubber, became a work of art. In the work 'Shibori', Eva shows that this technique can also be perfectly applied to paper - a homage to the wonderful Aichhorn collection. It is her wish that the everyday, ubiquitous, always available material paper will also be transformed from Nothing to Remarkable for the guests of the exhibition.

The Gemeinschaft Bildender Künstler Straubing presents a thematic exhibition of its members entitled "Nah Dran" in the Weytterturm beginning May 6, 2023. "Close at hand" is about the elementary question of what moves a person in his or her life. Looking, seeing, contemplating, experiencing becomes more intense, more lasting, more interesting when a person approaches the living, the matter and lets the emotion approach him.
Tanja Major with "Mycobütten." Here you can see the motif "Ascomycota,"
between two acrylic plates that resemble an eyepiece. This is what tubular fungi can look like under a microscope. They form tubes and in them are the spores for further sexual reproduction. The spores are shot out of the tubes when they mature. The Ascomycota (ascomycetes, tubular fungi) form a separate division in the kingdom of fungi. These include popular edible mushrooms such as truffles, morels and many more.
The handmade mushroom paper works show new possibilities of paper production, they consist of almost 100% mushrooms and are therefore
a "compostable or sustainable art" that can be returned to nature or the forest.

Opening reception May 23, 2023, 6 pm

Kristina Zimbakova's artwork included in the show 'Born to Fly' is made from acrylic and endemic lichen Usnea antarctica from King George Island, Antarctica, on self-handmade paper from 100 % wood-inhabiting fungi. The lichen-drawn inscription is the title of an eponymous play by Macedonian playwright Blagoja Risteski –Platnar, and it reads ‘Fly, Siljan.’ The Antarctic lichen (collected in Feb 2014) is courtesy of Prof. Alfredo Passo, Universidad Nacional del Comahue, Argentina. The work depicts the butterfly life cycle from an egg to an adult, when it eventually flies out of the painting into freedom. It symbolically represents the inner metamorphosis of a person, shedding constraints and surpassing adversity, and emerging of a new, liberated self.
Tanya Major's art included in the show is tilted "Investment- Paper,"
Nature as the most valuable share in climate change. It is fungi-paper, circles with gold-plated wood embossing each 50 cm diameter. Here Tanja Major shows mushroom paper with a tree bark embossing that is gold-plated. Europe, the USA and other countries have the highest global paper consumption per capita. To meet the demand for paper, the industry cultivates fast-growing woods on mostly former rainforest areas. This is a problem because the loss of tropical rainforests in particular is increasing worldwide and the extinction of animal and plant species is progressing. The local population loses its livelihood with the deforestation of rainforest. Other ways of making paper, such as from mushrooms could change our situation of radical deforestation of rainforests. We should rethink!
Amateras Annual Exhibition/Competition for paper art is a part of the 13th edition of Sofia Paper Art Fest. It is an international and annual festival exhibiting the best of contemporary developments in paper art, and a two-time winner of the Festivals for Europe' (EFFE), awarded periodically by the European Festival Association.

Sofia 1000
The exhibition 'Ethereal' is an artist project by Daniela Todorova, an established artist in the field of paper art and curator of Sofia Paper Art Fest. This project is part of the "Solo Exhibitions" section and has a special place in this year's festival program, marking the 60th anniversary of its curator and creator. The project is dedicated to a favorite topic for the artist – light and its multilayered dimensions. The exhibition is made up of paintings and paper panels united by installation works with light. Daniela Todorova has great merit for the presentation of this art, her preferred medium. The combination of paper and relief structures complements the sense of movement and lightness she wants to convey.
“The main focus of my oeuvre, regardless of the medium, is interweaving spiritual messages into symbolic works. Philosophers define the Ether (quintessence) as the highest layer of air. This is almost invisible but very powerful energy has always been the body of research in the works I create. It is the fifth element associated with the divine. My spiritual journeys into the unknown invisible world and the encounter with that pure and gentle substance, the Ether, are part of my visions and searches in art. The messages I send are part of meditative states of contemplation and penetrating behind the veil of the visible in touch with the light. Symbolism and purity are my credos, expressed through eternal silent white, crystalline structures and shimmering matter." Daniella Todorova

Along with paper recycling, the installation also makes reference to the broader themes of art and sustainability. It sees artistic practices based on the principles of RRR (reduce, reuse, recycle) as a form of responsibility, where the reuse of materials and the conservation of primary resources are fundamental requirements of a contemporary and sustainable, visual art practice.

Curated by Georgia Deal, When PRINT Meets PAPER focuses on artists working at the intersection of print and paper. This show includes the work of Melissa Harshman, Kelly Taylor Mitchell, Marilyn Propp, Gretchen Schermerhorn and Georgia Deal. Each artist approaches the “marriage” of paper and print in unique ways, some coming from the lexicon of print and others from a primary focus and love of hand papermaking. It can be argued that a commonality connects the works, with the origins of printmaking historically addressing social, political and narrative themes.

Emporium Gallery

In this year long project, Bruce G Bunting explores merging paper art with frames I displayed it in. He did this by casting frames from handmade paper for display of the art. In some cases, the art was added to the frame in the form of a collage. In others, the ‘art’ was cast as part of the frame using shaped molds.

Ras Al Khaimah
Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival (RAKFAF), a nonprofit community arts festival designed to showcase the work of local and emerging artists, photographers, and filmmakers and engage the community through a diverse calendar of cultural and creative programming.
As a part of artist in Residence programme. Masarratfatima Sulaimani will exhibit her solo exhibition during the festival. The installation titled 'Footprints' is a celebration of the relationship between nature and humankind. Inspired by these elements, the installation explores the ongoing dialogue between these two entities, as one continues to take over the other—like water washing over footprints—and yet neither stops moving.
The artist's intent behind this piece was to create a reflection on the common characteristics and duality of both elements: both being so strong yet equally fragile. It also highlights how our presence on earth affects nature, and vice versa: we leave our marks on our surroundings as we pass through them, but those marks will eventually wash away or be reclaimed by nature in turn. The installation is made of paper by hand cutting it and for some parts- papers are hand-made from plants found in Ras Al Khaimah. Each piece is uniquely created to create the impression of a trail through a surrealistic representation of nature and man-made spaces.
Material: hand made paper, hand cut Paper and branches

Please visit the 30th edition of the Kunst-aan-Huis Atelierroute Lauwersland with the theme “TOGETHER.”
No less than 76 artists are participating for this special occasion, most of them former participants of previous routes, and a few guests. The route was first held in 1992, with gallery “de Blauwe Roos” in Burum as the central point. Some artists from that first hour are now participating again.
The theme chosen is “TOGETHER” and the artists formed duos and small groups to jointly present their work. This time not from their own studio, but at no less than 31 special locations in the Lauwersmeer area, such as old churches, a deposit, a grand café, galleries, a farm….
From Art at Home, now to Art from Home.
