Fungi belong to the oldest and at the same time most hidden actors of life on Earth. The special exhibition FUNGA invites you to rediscover this independent kingdom – beyond the known fruiting bodies and far beyond the role of edible mushrooms.
The exhibition shows how fungi as mycelial networks control ecological cycles, build soils and enable symbioses without which life on land would hardly be conceivable. It traces from the ancient origins of fungi over their key role in nature and evolution to their close relationship with humans – for example in the skin and gut microbiome.
In addition to scientific insights, FUNGA also opens cultural perspectives: fungi as medicinal remedies, as part of rituals and myths, and as defining motifs in art and pop culture. Current research approaches on sustainable materials and biotechnological applications finally build the bridge into the future.
On display are various Mykobütten - fungi-paper and dyed fibers with fungus such as wool and silk.

Paper, as an everyday product, is manufactured on large paper machines and consumed in massive quantities. Papermaking by hand seems like a thing of the past. Yet this craft survives, especially for artistic purposes, as demonstrated by John Gerard. For almost 40 years, the US-born artist has been creating handmade papers in his unique paper workshop.
The temporary exhibition "PAPER – Handmade Papers by John Gerard" at the Alte Dombach Paper Mill in Bergisch Gladbach offers insights into his work. The exhibition is complemented by an accompanying program and a small papermaking workshop where visitors can try their hand at papermaking.

Internationally acclaimed Swiss paper artist Gaby Studer returns to the Three Lakes Region this autumn with an exhibition that bridges two worlds: the light and vastness of the Atlantic Ocean and the serene beauty of the Swiss lake landscape.
«Meer Seen» – the title is a deliberate play on words in German. «Meer» means «sea» and «Seen» means «lakes» – but together they also evoke «mehr sehen», meaning «to see more». It is an invitation to look closer, to be moved by the reduction to black and white, and to rediscover the beauty of nature through the eyes of an artist who lives between two waters: the Atlantic coast of the Algarve and the lakes of the Murten region.
Gaby Studer's works deliberately challenge the traditional notion of Scherenschnitt – the Swiss art of paper cutting. Where most people associate the craft with alpine silhouettes and symmetrical patterns, she creates something entirely different: intricate, detailed representations of nature of extraordinary precision and depth. Her creative process begins with a drawing, which she transfers onto a specialised paper that is both robust and delicate. Rather than scissors and folding techniques, she works with a scalpel using the so-called «open cut» method, which allows her to render even the most fragile structures with perfect stability. Trees, dandelion clocks, coastlines – each cut is a tribute to nature, an invitation to rediscover its subtleties and wonder.

The Salaspils Regional Library hosts the paper art and artist’s book exhibition “New Life for Old Books.” This is the eighth stop on the exhibition’s travelling journey, which has been delighting audiences with new and surprising works for more than a year and a half.
At the heart of the exhibition is the idea of transformation. Books that have outlived their original purpose or been discarded are given a new life in the hands of artists. Forgotten volumes are reborn as artist’s books, delicate light objects, and sculptural paper artworks.
The exhibition features works by 16 Latvian paper artists, including four members of the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA), showcasing the rich creative possibilities of paper as an artistic medium.

Kunstraum Testorf is hosts a remarkable exhibition: under the title “Paper Art – Works from 2016 to 2026” where artist Anke Meixner presents a selection of her work from the past ten years. The exhibition is accompanied by the sculptor Ines Baumgart, who, as a special guest, is showing her impressive installation ‘Cloud’.
Both artists share a powerful, distinctive visual language and an intense engagement with the material of paper, which they interpret in very different ways. Whilst Meixner works with subtle paper art, Baumgart creates a space-filling effect with her large-scale installation “Cloud”, crafted from knitted paper. In the fragile moment just before something falls apart, time seems to change shape, turning to dust, slipping into memory, and moving onward.
This exhibition takes as its starting point the cycles of nature and its constant transformation. It traces shifts from stability to disintegration, from manual to digital processes, from darkness to light.
The viewer is invited into a spatial installation of paper, textiles and video, where each work carries traces of its own decomposition. Intricate jacquard fabrics with organic patterns are draped in layers alongside delicate paper objects shaped like plants. In the brightest openings, what has sprouted begins to break down; in the darkest corners, something new takes root. And so everything begins again. Nothing disappears, everything remains.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Latvian Textile Art Association invites visitors to its summer exhibition at Cesvaine Palace.
This year’s exhibition offers an open and diverse insight into contemporary Latvian textile art. Free from a single overarching theme, it allows each artist to speak about what matters most to them.
The concept also resonates with the approaching centenary of Rudolf Heimrāts, the founder of Latvia’s textile art tradition, reflecting on the development of the field while considering how textile art continues to evolve today.
The works explore memories, environments, people, everyday life, and belonging. Alongside personal narratives, broader social and cultural moods also emerge. From more than 400 submitted works, 50 have been selected for the exhibition, showcasing a wide range of techniques, artistic approaches, and generational perspectives.

'Tidal' brings together a new body of work by Melbourne-based artist Bridget Hillebrand. Developed through recent residencies on a floating studio at Lake Tyers in East Gippsland and along the Shoalhaven River at Bundanon, NSW, the works arise from sustained proximity to tidal environments. Their continual give and take is felt through shifts in visibility, unstable ground, and traces of contact, pressure and return.
Through printmaking, ink and folded paper, Hillebrand works with repetition as a way of registering change. Acts of marking, layering and folding echo the cyclical motion of currents, sediment and tidal flow, with the surface holding the evidence of movement over time. Rather than picturing water as a fixed subject, Tidal attends to the conditions that move through it. The exhibition considers making as a practice of attunement, shaped by pull, pressure, return and the unseen forces that determine what comes to the surface.

About the Exhibition:
“KoExistenz” means living together, interacting, maintaining a reciprocal relationship with one another, and finding synergy with the other’s perspective, rather than judging or condemning.
Driven by a childlike fear, we humans often tend to fight against whatever seems threatening. The “enemy”—which can be any number of things—usually has only a limited “shelf life”: forest die-off, the ozone hole, nuclear power, climate change, diseases, those who think differently.
But the fight against one thing or another distracts us from our actual tasks and thus prevents us from evolving as a human community.
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And the interplay of elements is the foundation upon which new properties and structures of a system can emerge. There is no light without darkness, no day without night. Our lives unfold in the tension between opposites that are mutually dependent and complementary, not mutually exclusive.

Kristina Zimbakova creates symbolic and figurative mixed-media paintings, mostly on her handmade paper from fungi. Her art practice is interdisciplinary: fungi and lichens as media and poetry references are distinctive features of her work. She ‘draws’ with lichens, crafts mosaic with fungi, and she also applies embroidery on fibre. The fungi originate from habitats from all over the world, obtained from dry collections or during her forays as a mountaineer, in collaboration with bio-scientists.
Her work has been subject of an MA thesis entitled Weaving Connections through Mycelium and Lace: Ecofeminist Reflections in Sylvia Plath’s Poetry and Kristina Zimbakova’s Visual Art, defended at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland (2026). She was the recipient of the City of Strumica Annual Medal Award for Outstanding Achievement in Arts (2025). Prestigious grants received include those from the UNDP Office in Macedonia, and the International Mushroom Dye Institute from the USA.

The large-scale wall installation Kontaktzonen, created specifically for the historic Orangerie, is composed of handmade cardboard, self-produced bioplastic, and hybrid fragments. Melanie Windl brings synthetic and organic materials into dense formations of plant-like structures, stone-like slabs, and flesh-colored elements in which material boundaries begin to dissolve.
Fragility appears here as a lasting condition, adaptation as an ongoing process. Permanence becomes a projection shaped by human longing.
Working between geology, ecology, and corporeality, Melanie Windl explores the fragile relationship between humans and nature. Letters from Denmark have been used to make hundreds of paper daisies for a new artwork commemorating the end of the Danish national postal service.
At the end of 2025, PostNord stopped delivering letters and removed all the post boxes. Gillian Taylor invited people in Denmark to send one last letter. They wrote about memories of meaningful letters received in the past, and shared their thoughts on PostNord’s decision to end letter deliveries, reflecting on the effort and time taken to write a letter by hand.
Copies of the letters, their envelopes and contents have been used to create a hanging installation with hundreds of paper daisies. The daisy is the national flower of Denmark as well as a symbol of new beginnings and hope – offering an optimistic note, despite the sad end of the handwritten letter.
An accompanying soundscape has been specially composed by Laura Reid and uses a French horn, taking inspiration from the post horn which appeared on Denmark’s post boxes.

„zROZUMieć papier” – dialogue of matter, thoughts and emotions. Report from the vernissage of the exhibition by Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz
With the start of the new year, the Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój opened a temporary exhibition entitled ‘zROZUMieć papier’ (Understanding Paper). It presents the work of Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz, an artist and designer who percieves paper not only as a material, but also as a full-fledged partner in the creative process. The event attracted numerous guests and officially opened an exhibition devoted to reflections on the significance of paper in contemporary art.
The exhibition presents spatial objects made of corrugated cardboard, subtle works made of tobacco tissue paper, and works created by the use of handmade paper. The diversity of materials and forms allows us to appreciate the richness of paper's properties - from its softness and transparency to its structural rigidity and geometric precision. The exhibition presents paper as an ambiguous material, susceptible to transformation and capable of generating new meanings.
Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz, a graduate of the Institute of Papermaking and Printing at the University of Technology Łódź and holds a PhD degree of Design Arts at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. She consistently explores the possibilities of paper, using handmade, unbleached and paraffin-coated paper as well as tissue paper, tobacco paper, cardboard and corrugated cardboard. As the artist emphasises, every paper product and semi-finished product in her hands generates new creative qualities, and the process of creating her works is based on a dialogue with the selected type of paper, finally leading to the discovery of its hidden potential.
The exhibition ‘zROZUMieć papier’ (Understanding Paper) also encourages reflection on the very essence of paper - a material that is light, thin and fragile, yet indispensable in the process of recording thoughts, preserving memory and transmitting values. In fact, paper only begins to fully exist in relation with human beings: it is through paper that an idea leaves the mind and becomes reality. Although it is easy to destroy, it is to paper that we entrust what is most important.
The exhibition takes on special significance in the context of the place where it is presented. The Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój, located in a historic paper mill, has for years been a space for tradition, craftsmanship and contemporary artistic exploration.

Two special exhibitions – a celebration of medal art! From 18 October 2025 to 11 May 2026, the Munich State Coin Collection will present outstanding masterpieces of contemporary and classical medal art: ‘Resonances’ – current artistic positions on dialogue, sound and reverberation. ‘Through the Eyes of Collectors’ – favourite pieces and treasures, selected by passionate collectors.
