For the first time, a comprehensive retrospective is showcasing large parts of the complete works of Marburg artist Katharina N. Eitel, who passed away ten years ago at the age of 70. Katharina N. Eitel was a co-founding member of IAPMA.

During her more than forty years as an artist, Katharina Natalie Eitel gained public recognition with her highly acclaimed large-scale paper installations from the ‘zeithaut’series in museums, a church and other exhibition venues, but she rarely exhibited individual paintings or drawings, her objects and experimental paper art.

On display will be a selection of her costumes created in London,
large-format sketchbooks, handmade papers with drawings and paintings, paper artworks, marbled pictures, photographs and the results of her artistic exploration of central themes such as dialogue, vessels, landscape, the past and the body.

„zROZUMieć papier” – dialogue of matter, thoughts and emotions. Report from the vernissage of the exhibition by Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz

With the start of the new year, the Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój opened a temporary exhibition entitled ‘zROZUMieć papier’ (Understanding Paper). It presents the work of Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz, an artist and designer who percieves paper not only as a material, but also as a full-fledged partner in the creative process. The event attracted numerous guests and officially opened an exhibition devoted to reflections on the significance of paper in contemporary art.

The exhibition presents spatial objects made of corrugated cardboard, subtle works made of tobacco tissue paper, and works created by the use of handmade paper. The diversity of materials and forms allows us to appreciate the richness of paper's properties - from its softness and transparency to its structural rigidity and geometric precision. The exhibition presents paper as an ambiguous material, susceptible to transformation and capable of generating new meanings.

Agnieszka Andruszkiewicz, a graduate of the Institute of Papermaking and Printing at the University of Technology Łódź and holds a PhD degree of Design Arts at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. She consistently explores the possibilities of paper, using handmade, unbleached and paraffin-coated paper as well as tissue paper, tobacco paper, cardboard and corrugated cardboard. As the artist emphasises, every paper product and semi-finished product in her hands generates new creative qualities, and the process of creating her works is based on a dialogue with the selected type of paper, finally leading to the discovery of its hidden potential.

The exhibition ‘zROZUMieć papier’ (Understanding Paper) also encourages reflection on the very essence of paper - a material that is light, thin and fragile, yet indispensable in the process of recording thoughts, preserving memory and transmitting values. In fact, paper only begins to fully exist in relation with human beings: it is through paper that an idea leaves the mind and becomes reality. Although it is easy to destroy, it is to paper that we entrust what is most important.

The exhibition takes on special significance in the context of the place where it is presented. The Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój, located in a historic paper mill, has for years been a space for tradition, craftsmanship and contemporary artistic exploration.

Bas Linssen’s work explores memory and the longing for what once was. It is shaped by an ongoing dialogue with the natural world, as well as with found objects and materials that evoke a personal response. Paper serves almost always as the foundation of the work; its fragility and versatility closely align with the artist’s intent and sensibility.

Memories are distilled through drawings and paintings in which, much like a film, multiple fragments intertwine. The process involves drawing, scratching, removing, sanding, and working the fibers until each piece arrives at a form that holds the memory as fully as possible. What emerges resembles a relic—an object whose quiet beauty reaches back in time while simultaneously offering a sense of comfort.

“No sooner had the warm liquid, and the crumbs with it, touched my palate than a shudder ran through my whole body, and I stopped, intent upon the extraordinary changes that were taking place”.

It is often a single detail that triggers a revelation. In Marcel Proust’s famous madeleine scene, a simple gesture, such as biting into a cake after dipping it in tea, acts as a sensory amplifier capable of triggering
a whole universe of images and emotions.

Fragments unfolds in this liminal perceptual space, where what is ambiguous, discontinuous and partial continues to challenge our gaze and mind.

For the first time ever, SAC is opening its doors to the public with a two-person exhibition. Silvia Beltrami and Giuseppe Gallace, previous visitors to this space as part of previous group exhibitions, are now participating in a direct exchange, a visual dialogue in which their sensibilities interweave and reflect off of one another.

Within this dialogue, the fragment asserts itself as a form of possibility. The works of Beltrami and Gallace inhabit a hybrid territory where what’s real, though shattered, remains alive.

The next edition of Algues en Art will take place at the Maison de la Mer in Lézardrieux from April 11 - 17, 2026. On this occasion, Sabine Kuznik will present her work in France for the first time.

As part of her artistic research, she has developed handmade inks derived from various species of seaweed – her “colours of the sea.” Using these natural pigments, she creates works that combine her practice with elements inspired by traditional Japanese painting, revealing the aesthetic strength of seaweeds that endure wind, salt and waves along the shoreline.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the association, several artists who participated in previous editions of Algues en Art have been invited to take part in the event and will present a selection of their works.

Under the title ‘Paper Vibes 2.0’, three artists are exhibiting together in De Boterhal. What connects them is that all three work with or on paper. Their concepts and executions are different, but their idiosyncratic imagined worlds fit together wonderfully.

In her work, Josefien Alkema takes visitors on a walk through a landscape of her own creation, where attention is focused on organic structures and the dynamics of wind, water, and light. The basis for this is the graphic quality of drawing: ink, charcoal, or pencil on paper. By folding and modeling the paper, Alkema creates forms she calls “cosmic ornaments”: paper sculptures that are mysterious and abstract, but also tangible and earthy.
Jacqueline Kooter creates site-specific installations from torn and hand-painted paper. For her, the material paper and the act of tearing it represent the vulnerability and transience of humanity and nature at the hands of humans. The installations evoke a landscape experience that feels alienating.
Annechien Verhey draws on various sources: literature, art history, current events, and personal experiences. These different sources provide visual elements that she weaves together into a clear and spatial image that shows a world in fragments, open to different interpretations.

On the occasion of the Day of Printmaking, Heike Berl will present her experiences with various printing techniques on handmade paper, sculptural editions, and a new exhibition project - WOMEN´S WORTH SHOWCASE - her collection of prints by international female artists.

Heike Berl works in the media of drawing, printmaking, pulp painting and paper sculpture to trace nature, history and humanity. She is the initiator and coordinator of the IAPMA RUBY JUBILEE COLLECTION, an international paper mail art project in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the association in 2026.

On March 15, 2018, traditional printing techniques were added to the German UNESCO Commission's nationwide list of cultural heritage. The Day of Printmaking Art is always held on March 15 with a large number of events around this day in Germany and neighboring European countries.

The exhibition “Handmade Paper from Asia to Europe” invites visitors to explore the remarkable journey of paper — from its invention in 1st-century China, through its spread to the Islamic world, to the establishment of the first European papermaking workshops in the 13th century, and finally to the early industrial age of the 20th century.

Featuring 50 carefully selected objects from the archive of Triton & Shell – Paper Art Hub, the exhibition highlights the technical diversity, cultural resonance, and artistic beauty of handmade paper across continents and centuries.

Among the exhibition’s highlights are:

• The book Kamisuki Mura Kurotani (1970), awarded “The Most Beautiful Book in the World” at the 1972 Frankfurt International Book Fair,
• A selection of papermaking moulds from Asia, Europe, and America, illustrating the evolution of tools and techniques,
• Prints from the 18th to the 20th century documenting the stages of traditional papermaking.

Through these objects, the exhibition brings to life a time when every sheet of paper was made by hand and carried the full weight of human expression — long before paper became a disposable commodity.

Exhibition texts are presented in Greek, with a full English-language guide available to ensure accessibility for international guests.

Hosted at Triton & Shell – Paper Art Hub in Dafni, Athens, this exhibition is part of a broader mission to celebrate and preserve the global heritage of handmade paper. Soloexhibition: Since 2016, Tanja Major has devoted herself to the fascinating world of fungi. Her Mykobütten are made 100% from mushrooms, crafted without wood or cutting down forests. From polypores, trametes, and gill fungi, she creates papers embodying color, texture, and transformation.

The artist combines mycological knowledge with traditional papermaking (including the Japanese Washi technique) and develops her own methods using mushroom pigments and fibers. What otherwise lives hidden—the mycelium—becomes visible through her work: as an organic network, as an artistic medium, as a symbol of life and impermanence. Major’s works express a symbiotic cooperation with nature and invite viewers to reconsider our place in the ecological system.

The poet Christian Morgenstern is well-known and popular in typography circles. With his “Spiel- und Ernst-Zeug” (playful and serious stuff), the two societies “Verein für die Schwarze Kunst e.V.” and “Meister der Einbandkunst e.V.” have created a versatile work of book art to mark the 111th anniversary of the poet's death. Under the banner of collaborative cooperation, the book was handmade, hand-set, hand-printed, and hand-bound. The exhibition pays homage to Christian Morgenstern and celebrates the craftsmanship of papermaking, traditional hand typesetting and letterpress printing, and bookbinding. In addition to the magnificent book editions, prints, tools, lead typesetting forms, and printing blocks such as linocuts and an original wood engraving are on display.
