This online class is designed for individuals who are self motivated to learn Japanese papermaking in a private independent study format, without having to wait for a group event. Detailed lessons and dozens of video demonstrations are made available every few days to allow students to work at their own pace.
Participants can take this class at any time and from any location [with internet access] and learn all of the processes involved in how to make Japanese-style nagashizuki-style paper, including identifying the plant itself, harvesting, steaming, stripping and scraping off the outer bark to gain access to the beautiful inner bast fiber, cooking, hand beating, rinsing/cleaning, mixing neri (formation aid), preparing the vat and finally forming sheets of paper. These steps will be followed with pressing and drying as well as a few extra contemporary creative techniques. Along the way, you will learn a little science about the fiber to have a better understanding of the material.
Lessons and materials are available for several months to provide time to work through it all. Price includes 2 hours of private consultation [by appointment].

In my art studio “mume”, we will share Japanese familiar spaces, and the seasonally changing views of the submontane village.
Price: 5,000 JPY per person Time required: About 2 hours
I run my workshops with a maximum of three participants. Please ask if you are four or a larger family or group. The paper will be dried naturally, and sent after a few days, and will be sent free of
charge in Japan. Additional shipping charges will apply if international shipping is required.

Paper tot paper
Creating paper is fun to do and the result will make you very happy. In my studio at the Lindengracht in Amsterdam I do workshops for one day of papermaking. You first make pulp and practice creating and I show all kinds of examples. Then you go to work yourself and I help you where necessary and answer the questions that undoubtedly arise. At the end of the day you learned a lot about handmade paper and you can take a nice stack home with you.
In my studio we make paper of white and colored paper remnants.
The largest mould and deckle are A4 size.
Such a day is for a minimum and a maximum of two people and lasts from 11.00 to 16.00 o’clock and costs fifty euros per person. Children from eight years old can also participate well. Put together a duo and contact me, then we can arrange a date.
