Jacqueline Mallegni - Shaping Space with Flax Fiber

United States

"Your eyes and mind will be intrigued by the ever-changing patterns created by paper forms and the empty spaces they define".
~ "Shaping Space" by Paul Zelanski - Mary Pat Fisher

Spend a day learning this meditative, contemporary papermaking technique via Zoom. We will transform flax roving into beautiful textured paper, then "shape space" by casting the paper into an ethereal sculpture with moulds you create or from found objects.
Flax fiber paper can be used with book art techniques; it can painted with inks and stains, encaustic and used as a substrate for stitching.
The class is designed to make friends with our inner-critic and to have fun.

No-experience with papermaking or sculpture necessary.

Japanese Papermaking with Kozo - Online Independent Study [ANY TIME, ANYWHERE]]

United States

This online class is designed for individuals who are self motivated to learn Japanese papermaking in a private independent study format, without having to wait for a group event. Detailed lessons and dozens of video demonstrations are made available every few days to allow students to work at their own pace.

Participants can take this class at any time and from any location [with internet access] and learn all of the processes involved in how to make Japanese-style nagashizuki-style paper, including identifying the plant itself, harvesting, steaming, stripping and scraping off the outer bark to gain access to the beautiful inner bast fiber, cooking, hand beating, rinsing/cleaning, mixing neri (formation aid), preparing the vat and finally forming sheets of paper. These steps will be followed with pressing and drying as well as a few extra contemporary creative techniques. Along the way, you will learn a little science about the fiber to have a better understanding of the material.

Lessons and materials are available for several months to provide time to work through it all. Price includes 2 hours of private consultation [by appointment].

PAPIER-art ART-papier

Austria

WEITERE KURSMODULE:
(nach Absolvierung des Grundkurses)

  • Briefpapier herstellen
  • Papiere mit Gewürzen und Blattmetallen
  • Fasergewinnung aus heimischen Pflanzen
  • Asiatische Schöpftechnik

In our workshop in Mattsee, in the Salzburg Lake District, we lovingly handcraft large and small works of art made of paper. We get our raw materials directly from our own garden. This enables us to produce a unique variety of plant papers. During processing, we make sure to leave the smallest possible ecological footprint by working with nature in a resource-saving manner.

After a short introduction to the history of paper, you will make paper in A6, A5 and A4 format. For example, herbs, fresh flowers and leaves are included into the paper depending on the season. You design your own personal flower paper. Afterwards you have the possibility to visit the paper exhibition in the house.

FURTHER COURSE MODULES:
(after completion of the basic course)
  • Stationery production
  • Papers with spices and metal leaves
  • Fibre production from domestic plants
  • Asian papermaiking

Van papier naar papier

Netherlands

Paper tot paper
Creating paper is fun to do and the result will make you very happy. In my studio at the Lindengracht in Amsterdam I do workshops for one day of papermaking. You first make pulp and practice creating and I show all kinds of examples. Then you go to work yourself and I help you where necessary and answer the questions that undoubtedly arise. At the end of the day you learned a lot about handmade paper and you can take a nice stack home with you.
In my studio we make paper of white and colored paper remnants.
The largest mould and deckle are A4 size.
Such a day is for a minimum and a maximum of two people and lasts from 11.00 to 16.00 o’clock and costs fifty euros per person. Children from eight years old can also participate well. Put together a duo and contact me, then we can arrange a date.
