More Information

I am the paper
And I have survived almost everything
I have been folded
Crumpled up and thrown away
I have contained your love
And held on to your entire identity
But what now...
... in a time when thoughts are stored in a cloud
and love is lived on a fleeting chat?

The GribGruppen invites you to the refuge of paper, where we gather around our heritage in paper. An archive where diaries, newspapers, love letters, manuals, dress-up dolls and much more, give us a touching insight into our common local daily life and being both before and now. In the archive, paper airplanes transform into clouds of leaflets that descend among us. A sea of sound roars and we sail over the waves of the sea chart.

In Requiem for Paper? Paper unfolds into a sensual universe that evokes images from moments and lives lived in a way that perhaps only paper can? Is this the requiem of paper, the last song of paper?

Requiem for Paper? is presented in collaboration with Gribskov Teater/Papir Akademiet, Helsingør Teater and Kulturværftet.

GribGruppen consists of 3 artists based in Gribskov: Composer and musician Birgit Løkke, scenographer Filippa Berglund and stage artist Helene Kvint.

Paper is the focal point as a material and the vision is to develop close collaborations with the local environment. The works are included in various formats, such as concerts, exhibitions, performance works, etc. Local life and its stories will always be an important part of GripGruppen's projects.

More Information

This exhibition explores how contemporary artists respond to the concept of “land”, how they identify with their environment, and their experience of living within a space.

As the world continues to change around us through climate breakdown and escalating world conflicts, we are constantly reminded of the importance of “land”, to our societies, to our identity, and to our existence.

The exhibition will showcase work by current SSA members that explores the theme of “land” and includes diverse interpretations of the theme, displaying a range of creative mediums, giving a platform for our artists to share their experience of what “land” means to them.

This exhibition theme was inspired by the United Nations’ seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, with particular focus on goal number fifteen: ‘Life on Land’, which looks to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and reverse land degradation. The motif of “land” has  many connotations that feel very relevant to the current climate of today. How do we identify with the concept of land? How do we use the land, who owns the land we inhabit, and can the land really be owned?

Achieving sustainable and greener practices within the creative arts is one of our Society’s main objectives. The theme of this exhibition was also a consideration of these targets and how the SSA can raise awareness of sustainable practices.

Location

More Information

There are 18 framed collages made with handmade paper and a 19' long installation. The installation has three parts. On the floor are boxes in the shape of letters which spell “IN DANGER” planted with 28 kinds of native praire seeds. Above the words are a a dozen hand drawn images of endangered species. Next to each image is a block of ice with that same endangered species inside. The image that is frozen in the ice will slowly disappear dripping into the planters. Because the pulp painting was done directly on the ice and not pressed on a sheet of paper as the ice melts the image will dissolve, watering the prairie grass below. The exhibition "Vanishing Flora" is a statement about our disappearing natural environment and all of us are IN DANGER because of it. All the work conveys the beauty of the natural world.

More Information

Paper is a realm of memory that resists time. With traces embedded in its layers, it transforms and is rewritten, becoming a palimpsest. SEKA Paper Museum hosts an exhibition that translates this historical dynamism into a modern artistic narrative, merging past and present.

Opening on International Papermakers' Day, Palimpsest: Paper Installation Exhibition explores the journey of paper from an industrial material to a medium of artistic expression. Curated by E. Begüm Savçın, Hülya Küpçüoğlu, and Duygu Sabancılar, the exhibition unfolds within SEKA Paper Museum—a palimpsest space that preserves its industrial past and collective memory. In this setting, shaped by artistic reflection, past imprints merge with the present. Within this historically rich venue, paper gains new meanings on the axis of memory, transformation, and time.

Each artwork invites visitors to rethink paper, not just as a medium but as an active storyteller. The exhibition offers a reflection on how art and material converge, with paper as a means of preserving and conveying histories across generations.

Hand made paper, different types of Japanese tissue, papier maché, and paper pulp are just some of the materials being used to create drawings paintings sculpture and architectural models. It is manipulated, burnt, cast, folded, walked on and torn. It is used for collage and all types of printmaking from lino to collograph, lithography, etching and woodcut.

The work in the exhibition ranges from powerful visceral charcoal drawings to hangings so delicate as they move in the still air that it almost seems as if they do not exist. There are tiny intimate paintings, exquisite fine line drawings on costly cotton rag paper and expressive vibrant works on packaging cardboard and paper animal feed sacks. Defined as the state of being near, whether in place, time, or relationship, Propinquity takes shape through intricate paper weavings that transform deconstructed original artworks into unified compositions. By meticulously cutting, layering, and weaving, Alison highlights the delicate balance between fragmentation and cohesion, revealing how separate pieces—like moments, relationships, or ideas—can intertwine to create something entirely new. Patterns emerge, edges meet, and colors interlock, echoing the way proximity shapes meaning and experience.

Location

Habita79
Via Roma, 10
80045 Pompei NA

More Information

HABITA79 MGallery Pompeii concludes the 2024 season with the solo exhibition "Sequenze" by Silvia Beltrami.
The project is directed towards a material study characterized by the fresco tearing technique, a procedure by which a fresco is taken away from its original wall, by removing the pictorial part and the surface plaster and then transferred onto a new support (calicot method from the name of the thin canvas also called "grandmother's rag" which is used to remove the fresco) where the artist subsequently intervenes by applying fragments of coated paper. Sequenze draws inspiration from the current events of our times which, mediated by the mass media, become propaganda, not allowing space for free thought and therefore feeding homogenisation. These works reproduce reality using fragments of reality, interpreting new infinite lives through them, where each fragment has its own history and the more they are, the more they overlap with each other and the more they lose their original identity, quoting the movie by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert “Everything everywhere all at once”. Silvia Beltrami always places the figure as a point of reference, expressing in this way a poetics whose fulcrum is humanity, a humanity constantly running away from itself and from the others. The exhibition creates a dialogue between collage and fresco, between reality and historical knowledge, between the weight of the past and the fragmentation of the present. The selected works lead us to think about the structure of our collective transitive memory, a legacy of the heritage of Italian art.

IMPRINT: The Paper and Book Project delves into the foundational and spontaneous aspects of creativity, emphasizing the transformative power of an artist's imprint-both literal and metaphorical. The exhibition offers an intimate view into the genesis of artistic expression, focusing on the physical and conceptual traces left behind in the process of creating. The works featured in this exhibition bear the imprint of the artist's evolving thoughts, revealing the raw, unrefined energy that fuels creativity.

The Concept of IMPRINT:

The title, IMPRINT, speaks to the enduring marks artists leave behind-impressions that are both tangible, in the form of marks on paper, and intangible, as reflections of their inner world. The term reflects the interplay between materiality and memory, acknowledging the physical act of imprinting as central to the creative process. IMPRINT also alludes to the act of recording and preserving fleeting moments of inspiration, transforming raw thoughts into enduring artifacts.

This project explores the profound connections between artists and the tools they use to shape their ideas, celebrating the immediacy and authenticity of their journey. By presenting works that are deeply personal and experimental, IMPRINT honours the essence of the creative spark-the transformative potential of raw materials, evolving concepts, and unfiltered thought.

The Paper Project

Curated by Sharan Apparao, the Paper Project is a celebration of the materiality of paper and its limitless potential as a medium for artistic and structural exploration. This section reawakens a sense of wonder for the often-overlooked material of paper.

Featuring over 180+ artists, IMPRINT: The Paper and Book Project showcases a remarkable diversity of creative voices. On view at the Hindu Lit for Life festival, Lady Andal Venkatasubba Rao School, Chennai, on January 18th and 19th, which will then be moved to Apparao Galleries, Wallace Gardens, Chennai, from January 22nd to February 15th, 2025

Christine Cougoule Christine Cougoule

Opening Hours

Monday to Saturday  10:30 am - 5:30 pm

Location

Showroom Chris&Co
12 rue du 4 septembre

More Information

In this series, Christine Cougoule explores the subtle balance between light and shadow in minimalist black-and-white works made of paper. These creations, made from plant fibers, embody the complementary relationship between darkness and light, revealing an
interdependence where each force enriches and complements the other.

The texture of the material dialogues with the light, inviting meditative
contemplation. Inspired by the solstice, a symbol of
of renewal and rebirth, this series is a reflection on the
the harmony of opposing forces and the perpetual cycle of transformation.
Duality here becomes a space of balance, where each work celebrates
the passage between light and shadow.

"I create my digital prints using computer-aided techniques, based on photos of my works of paper pulp projections (with acrylic pigments added), either on canvas, wood or Plexiglas, sometimes with black Indian ink projections, and working with white tipex and fine-tipped black indelible felt-tips. For some years now, I've been reworking these prints with collages, before photographing them again and submitting them to software, which I manage." ~ Elisabeth Jobin-Sanglard
