'Paper Parcel Chair' and 'Paper Parcel Table' were acquired by CODA Museum in Apeldoorn and are now exhibited for one year in their standaard collection presentation in their space 'De Verdieping'.
About the Work: ‘Paper Parcel Chair’ and ‘Paper Parcel Table’ are the first two pieces in the series ‘Paper Parcels from the Past’, made by Emma Sebregts. The collection continues to grow. Every piece represents an object or piece of architecture from the homes in Sebregts’s past. The furniture and walls are things that she has carried with her and exchanged with others in the multiple homelands she has had. The temporality of her stay made her aware that homes and furniture are shared objects in the long term. Collecting the stories of the inhabitants they go through. The table and chair casts where taken from discarded furniture that Sebregts dragged in from the streets to furnish her house in her student times. A favorite way for Sebregts to furnish her house in those days was by reupholstering found furniture, changing the skin but keeping the bones. The skin shed by the furniture correlates with the empty skin displayed by the paper casts.

Welcome to a short interlude, a moment outside your main mission.
Ring the bell to start.
This body of work is an ode to uncertainty. Within the making process, the artist felt like trying to answer a different question every time, each work leading to more and more questions. The tunnels, the embroidery, the hanging paper works are diaphanous, each one more see-through than the previous, each one an attempt at playing with the very specificity of the solo gallery space’s large windows on one side. These pieces, while separate, thread together in this space and become site-specific attempts at embracing the light and the location. The solo gallery space located at the end - the last step in exploring the gallery, has also inspired the idea of the Side Quest. A short interlude, beyond the main world of the gallery, but also beyond the main mission of the viewers. Side Quest dives into the theme of uncertainty, of playing until finding an answer to questions. Of never really knowing those answers. The game set up for viewers is an attempt to convey this uncertainty, sitting in discomfort and finding joy in the exploration itself. These questions, a play on the academic research question grappled with in Odette's previous body of work, ask things like “how can someone feel this?”, “where do these tunnels lead?” The answers might be entirely obvious, but can also be as obscure as the player wants it to be. In their journey through the space, it is hoped that my players can embrace this obscurity. They can move through the tunnel-like curation which indicates the journey of this state of knowing and not knowing, this fun in-between, the side quest.

In 1992 Ina Fekken graduated as an autonomous visual artist from the Minerva Academy in Groningen. Prior to this study, she completed a degree in environmental science at the Higher Agricultural School. This has determined the underlying theme in her work. The inescapable influence that humans have on nature/environment is her central motif. Nowadays, Ina works almost exclusively with paper.

GRAZifikation 2024 FREMDE (the / the / that)
It is about the artistic examination of the unfamiliar and the different. The exploration of what the foreign does to us, of being attracted or deterred. Of the longing for the foreign, the respect for it or even the fear. Dealing with foreign cultures is a highly topical subject, especially when they come to us. Conversely, many people like to travel in order to get to know foreign cultures.
With this motto, the @KunstvereinGRAZ invites you to an artistic exploration.

Margaret Griffith’s artmaking practice is primarily concerned with the duality and contradictory implications of architectural boundaries found throughout the urban built environment. The artist’s sculptures, installations, and works on paper deconstruct the shapes of physical barriers erected against perceived external threats – wrought-iron residential gates, chain-link fences, metal grates employed in hostile architecture – and re-invents their patterns in materials that betray their inherent fragility.
Responding in part to the isolation and interpersonal suspicion that permeate modern American culture, works comprised of multiple overlapping layers of cut paper sheets emphasize the futility and impermanence of the physical and psychological barriers constructed between people. Their gridded patterns are slightly irregular, creating unexpected interference patterns that provoke a sensation of unease and disorientation. Another group of works, inspired by textile patterns, investigates the role of clothing in obscuring and protecting the body, as well asits capacity to serve as an indicator of wealth, privilege, and status. Perforated sheets of paper are inlaid with painted paper circles to create a unified plane, projecting a pretense of sturdiness and stability onto their porous and delicate forms.
Margaret Griffith received her BFA in painting from Maryland Institute College of Art and her MFA in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and internationally, and her work has been exhibited at such institutions as the Craft Contemporary, Weatherspoon Art Museum, Long Beach Museum of Art, and Armory Center for the Arts. Her work has been reviewed in Artillery Magazine, ArtScene, and the Los Angeles Times, among others.

While his brilliant exhibition in Bayreuth Town Hall is being set up, the artist, who lives in Austria, gives us a glimpse of his latest exhibition. His works are explosions of color and appear delicate yet very powerful. At first glance, you are confronted with the complexity of the designs. The works made of paper and cardboard are almost confusing. The works of art cannot be taken in quickly. At the same time, they attract the eye in such a way that you feel invited to linger longer.

Paper on Skin™ is a biennial wearable art award requiring artists to create a wearable garment made from at least 80% paper. First held in 2012, Paper on Skin™ draws on the papermaking heritage of the North-West coast of Tasmania and has since grown to become an international event. Eleven countries are represented among the 2024 finalists, all of whom demonstrate a visionary approach to the creative challenge.
The exhibition at the Devonport Regional Gallery showcases all thirty-three garments by the 2024 finalists. Also on display is a piece by James Dimech representing the Lucca Biennale Cartasia. This is part of a cultural exchange between Paper on Skin™ and the Biennale whereby Tasmanian artist Leonie Oakes also had a work exhibited in Lucca during their festival.
Three IAPMA members are among the award-winning artists this year.

Healthy Materials Lab presents Regeneration of Flax: Linseed, Linen, Shive, & Oil at the Arnold and Sheila Aronson Galleries on 5th Avenue in NYC. The exhibition will display the breadth of applications of products from the flax plant and encourage increased regional development of flax fiber in North America. Through the diversity of innovative designs, historic and current, our goal is to reconnect designers with the lifecycle of their materials.
Flax has been used for centuries for ropemaking, as a food source, and for textiles. It is a bio-based replacement for petrochemical-based products. The entire flax plant (Linum Usitatissimum) can be utilized, leading to zero-waste, healthier materials for textiles, finishes, paints, insulation and flooring. Through showcasing photography, material samples, written text, diagrams, and artwork, the exhibit will display the flax plant through its life cycle, in various applications, and ultimately its compostability.
Exhibitors include: DumoLab Research at the University of Pennsylvania, Michelle Wilson, Danielle Burke, Cassie Quinn & More!
Currently, fiber flax is primarily grown in Western Europe. Our exhibition will bring discourse to revitalization efforts of flax for linen textile production in North America. Additionally, the exhibition will highlight and display the use of linseed oil and shive byproducts for the built environment.
In response to the current climate crisis, our exhibition and related public programming will contribute to the crucial discussion concerning carbon sequestration, regional economies, and the ongoing shift towards healthier, bio-based materials.
We invite all to attend and register for the opening panel discussion and reception on October 7 at 5pm and invite The New School community to a spinning workshop on October 30 at 3pm.

Handmade MUSHROOM PAPER – made almost from 100% mushrooms, I call it “Mykobütten”.
The handmade mushroom paper works show new possibilities of paper making, they are made of almost 100% mushrooms and are therefore a “compostable or sustainable art” that can be returned to nature or the forest.

Ina Fekken found a moving photo from the past, before the land consolidation took place and converted it into a computer drawing. It was then laser cut from corrugated cardboard, making the underlying layer visible.
Art| Landscape | Westerwolde
Artists have been inviting people for centuries to see our country through their eyes, in beauty, wonder and sometimes confusion. The MOW | Museum Westerwolde has been collecting works of art with a connection to its own region for half a century, from realistic to abstract and from old to new. Older works show us a world that we sometimes barely recognize, with agricultural workers in the fields, dirt roads and horse and cart. Newer works play with the structures and colors of the land or with special properties such as the wind that gains strength over the vast land. Recently, concerns about a rapidly changing environment have been creeping into work.
Historical and contemporary art
In this exhibition, the museum combines (some of it historical) pieces from its own collection and those of others with works by contemporary artists. More than 160 (!) artists responded to a call for contemporary artists to be inspired by the Westerwold countryside. The works (all 40 x 40 cm) will show a continuous mosaic on the walls of the museum.

Current approaches and innovative projects are presented digitally on the Paper Future Lab homepage. They will be given a voice and a visibility. We create synergies and convey courageous approaches. Together we encourage sustainable change. The various action locations in Berlin can be seen on the interactive city map. In addition, you can share suggestions or content yourself in our city laboratory forum and submit your future-oriented ideas.
Tanja Major's handmade mushroom paper works, also known as 'Mykobütten', represent an innovative way of papermaking as they are made almost entirely from mushrooms and can therefore be considered compostable or sustainable art that can be returned to nature.
The creation of handmade artworks from mushrooms and plant pulp, which not only represent paper but also act as carriers of our stories and visions, is the result of a complex process based on scientific principles and creative application. These works are a tribute to the beauty of nature, the art of craftsmanship and the immeasurable creativity of the human spirit.

The exhibition "Diva Sativa" shows the results of the summer paper workshop in the Kunstraum Testorf. IAPMA members from Latvia, the USA and Germany met to work together with hemp, to gain new insights into the creative possibilities of this exciting fiber and to exchange ideas. "Diva" seems quite fitting, as the hemp fiber always reveals surprising properties. The exhibition will be completed by works made from local paper fibers.

The INDOOR section is presented showcasing artworks by international artists. You will find fascinating creations produced using various types of paper, cardboard and derivatives, whether handmade or newly produced. Through various techniques, artists have worked with these materials to create masterpieces of contemporary visual art, reflecting their own interpretation of the theme "Here and Now, Tomorrow" which characterises the 12th edition of Lucca Biennale Cartasia.

The exhibition includes a selection of the artist's latest works, designed for a site-specific intervention at Curva Pura.
The concepts of evolution and transformation are the basis of her research, both on a conceptual and formal level. The ongoing study and documentation of processes linked to the transformation of matter - plant fibres and naturally derived colours - are the main focus of creativity; this practice leads the artist to confront the unpredictability of outcomes and to reflect on the relativity of time and space in which matter is transforming.
In this exhibition, the many works are like so many variations of the same subject; they cohabit, interweaving an enthralling and secret plot in space. Working with simple materials, paper, canvas and colours that she obtains from plants or other natural elements, the artist also recovers a technical - but never rigid - dimension of art making that gives her work a total cosmic harmony. Technical research proceeds by the degrees of the logical-intellectual process, and Virginia proceeds together on the formal and aesthetic levels. The research into materials that she has been carrying out for years has led her to experiment with paper and its transformations (which, despite her explorations of other materials, remains her favourite medium) and colour of natural derivation, both characterised by fragility and ephemeral immanence in space and time."
