Joanne B Kaar is a research based visual artist who combines fact, fiction and folklore, often incorporating traditional craft techniques.
As both participant and instigator of arts and heritage projects and collaborations, Joanne is the recipient of a Museum Galleries Scotland and Creative Scotland ‘Iconic Artists in Iconic Places’ award.
She has worked in Taiwan, South Korea, Iceland, USA, Canada, Estonia, Catalonia and exhibited worldwide.
Her art work is in collections around the globe, including Whitworth Art Gallery Manchester and the Hanji Development Institute & gallery in Wonju, South Korea. Her artwork is varied, and is as much at home in museums as art galleries.
She lives in Caithness, Scotland, only 2 miles from where she grew up. Joanne holds a BA Hons Degree from Grays School of Art, Aberdeen and a Master of Arts from Manchester Metropolitan University. She studied fibre art at Oregon State University USA during a one year exchange as part of her degree.
Joanne has been self-employed since graduating in Dec 1992, starting as artist in residence for the Isle of Skye a few weeks later. In 2003, The Guild of Master craftsman published her book 'Papermaking and Bookbinding Coastal Inspirations.
