Triton & Shell – Paper Art Hub is a non-profit cultural and research organisation in Dafni, Athens, Greece, dedicated to handmade paper and the book. Opened in 2025, it brings together a specialised collection and historical archive, exhibitions, education and working studios. Its activities connect the study of paper history with practical knowledge and contemporary paper art.

The collection includes books, periodicals, archival documents, photographs, prints, paper samples and sample books, alongside papermaking moulds, tools and historic equipment. It documents handmade and industrial papermaking, bookbinding, conservation and related arts, drawing on material from Greece and abroad. A particular research focus is the history of papermaking in Greece and the preservation of the technical knowledge associated with paper and the book. Published records can be searched through our growing online catalogue.

Our papermaking studio supports the full process, from preparing textile and plant fibres to forming, pressing and drying sheets. European hand papermaking techniques are explored alongside experiments with fibres, coloured pulps and artistic applications. Historical tools and objects from the collection provide a basis for study and practical investigation. Bookbinding and book arts activities extend this work through the construction of books, artists’ books and related techniques.

Through exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations and educational programmes, we share knowledge with artists, makers, conservators, students and visitors interested in paper. Our opening exhibition, “Handmade Paper from Asia to Europe”, traces traditions and techniques across different cultures. Conservation expertise supports the documentation and care of the collection.

We welcome contact from IAPMA members and from papermakers, paper artists, researchers and cultural organisations interested in exhibitions, workshops, research and the exchange of knowledge. Donations of relevant archival material, paper samples, publications or tools are also welcome for discussion.

Triton & Shell is open to visitors by appointment. Researchers can contact us in advance to discuss their subject and arrange access to relevant material in the library and historical archive.
